Maharashtra Reopen Schools On Monday

Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope had said there was a request for the reopening of schools in the state.

Maharashtra Schools will reopen for all classes from Monday, the state’s Education Minister said today. Varsha Gaikwad, state School Education Minister has announced that the state government has approved the reopening of schools for classes 1 to 12. Students can come to schools to attend offline classes. 

“From 24 Jan we will be reopening schools for classes 1-12th with COVID protocols; Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has agreed to our proposal, Ms. Gaikwad was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.

State Health Minister Rajesh Tope had said that there was a request for the reopening of schools in the state.

“Demands are rising from certain quarters for reopening of schools as children are suffering the education loss,” he said.

Last December, the Maharashtra government had ordered the closure of schools in the state till 15  Feb as the number of covid19 cases started to climb from December amid the emergence of the new Omicron variant.

Ms. Gaikwad said “After COVID cases increased, the Maharashtra government decided not to continue the offline classes to the school. But after discussion with the experts, it has been clear to start the sessions where the number of cases is low based on the local COVID-19 situation.

 On Wednesday Maharashtra recorded 43,697 new covid 19 cases, 10 percent more than the previous day, adding 214 Omicron infections, and also saw 49 fatalities, the health department said.

With this, the state’s caseload reached 73,25,825, while the fatality count rose to 1,41,934. fresh Omicron cases1,860
